A SULLY girl will be flying out to either Iraq or Bosnia in the New Year after joining the Royal Army Medical Corps.
Emily Stevens, who attended Sully primary school and Howell s School in Llandaff, has been accepted into the Royal Army Medical Corps as a 2nd lieutenant.
She will take up her new role as a medical support officer in January with her regiment, which is committed to operations in both Iraq and Bosnia.
Emily first became interested in military life after joining Penarth Air Cadets.
She later successfully applied for a place at the army s prestigious sixth-form college at Welbeck.
After sixth form she gained a degree in software engineering at the Royal Military College of Science in Shrivenham.
Emily, who has played rugby for the Army s ladies team, said: I would recommend the Army as a career for young people.
It gives great opportunities to play sport, travel and do adventure training at the same time as gaining qualifications and being paid for it.
