Help hospice in New Year

COULD you make it your New Year s resolution to raise money to help terminally ill cancer patients to be cared for at their local Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth?

If so this may just be the event for you. The Marie Curie Cancer Care Snowdon Mountain Challenge is the third annual organised trek to the top of the highest mountain in Wales (3560ft/1085m).

Last year s event in May reached the maximum allowed number of participants by the end of January, so if you fancy joining in, organisers recommend signing up soon!

Hospice fundraiser Emma Baldwin said: The hospice is a 30-bedded unit offering high quality care for terminally ill cancer patients, respite care and support for the patients families.

Events like the Snowdon Mountain Challenge are a great way of getting the local community involved in raising money for a worthy cause, whilst having a fantastic day out at one of Wales beauty spots.

The hospice provides high quality care, totally free of charge. A sum of 400 funds the cost of caring for an in-patient at the hospice for a day.

The sponsored walk will utilise two well known pathways - allowing for great views of other peaks in the Snowdonia range and over North Wales. Both pathways are not unduly arduous and suitable for walkers of all abilities.

The events will take place on Sunday, June 25, and Sunday, October 8, and the cost will be 10 registration per person.

All participants must be over 18 and are encouraged to raise a minimum of 100 sponsorship.

As well as the Snowdon Ascent the charity is also running the Ben Nevis Mountain Challenge in June, which promises to be a fantastic event - taking in the breath-taking scenery of beautiful Fort William as you reach the summit of Britain s highest mountain.
