Determined St Cyres girls keep pressure on Llantwit

THE St Cyres Year 8 girls hockey team were in action against Llantwit Major.

They were dogged and determined from the start. Nia Morgan was outstanding as usual in the heart of midfield, dominating the game.

St Cyres created so many scoring opportunities with some very skillful play from Bethan Owen and Ruby Angove up front.

Sam Creedon eventually broke the deadlock with a well taken goal.

Llantwit did break into attack but these were calmly and efficiently dealt with by Charlotte Davies, Stephanie Britton and Hannah Palfrey in defence.

St Cyres continued to push up to go for the second goal. The Llantwit goalkeeper was outstanding making save after save. unfortunately St Cyres got caught on the break.

Jodie Williams who'd had little to do in goal was left without defensive cover and Llantwit scored.

Despite valiant efforts from Charlotte Woodfield, Sam Creedon and Ruby Angove, St Cyres could not score the winning goal. Despite this it was a really good game played well by both teams.

The Year 7 team were there in action against Bryn Hafren.

It was both teams' first 11-a-side game. St Cyres had some early pressure then Bryn Hafren had a few chances.

Georgia Wilkins made some good saves. St Cyres then had trouble clearing the ball. Eventually they got the ball to Lauren McCarthy on the right wing who ran the length of the pitch and scored.

St Cyres then went on to dominate the game, particularly in the second half when their positioning improved.

Lauren went on to get her hat trick as did Amy Watham. The defence of Laura Williams, Grace Hartrey and Hannah Deakin had little to do.

Emily Jellings, Saffiyah Azeez, Bethan Daw, Sorcha Guy and Sian Hampson were outstanding in midfield, as were Amy Watham, Lauren McCarthy and Rhoslyn Frugniet in attack.

We would like to thank the staff and pupils of Llantwit and Bryn Hafren.
