PENARTH and Dinas Runners held their presentation night for 2005 in January.
Lisa Cleary retained her title from 2004 and built her championship around the strength she got running in the London Marathon in April.
Neil Hendry had been runner-up for a couple of years and had been the club's veteran champion in the past but his consistent performances throughout 2005 saw him rewarded with the Club Championship.
Seona Currie was voted as Club Member of the Year for 2005. The citation for her was prepared from the plaudits written by the members who voted for her and it was quite clear that the members valued all the work she has done for the club while being unable to run while having her second child Eoin.
Other prize winners included: Veteran Lady Champion Joanna Hendry; Senior Veteran Lady Janice Clement; Male Veteran Champion Knill Baird Murray, runner-up Steve Hill and third place Clem.
Congratulations also to Esther Roberts and Knill Baird Murray who were nominated by the committee as Lady and Male Improver of the Year.
But that was last year and this year's championship is well underway.
Sunday, January 29 saw the Lliswerry eight mile in Newport. There were nine runners from the club taking part:
20th - Knill Baird Murray 49:01 (5th Male Vet 40); 79th - Stuart Jones 54:13 (making a very successful club debut run); 106th - Debbie Evans 56:39 (4th Female Vet 35); 107th - Steve Cray 56:47l 122nd - Neil Hendry 57:57 (8th Male Vet 50); 173rd - Andrew 60:34 (but allegedly suffering from a slight hangover!); 230th - Esther Roberts 64:11; 266th - Teca Phillips 67:17 (6th Female Vet 45); 303rd - Janice Clement 70:34 (8th Female Vet 45).
The following weekend saw the running of the Pontypridd Roadents Reverse ten mile race from the Treforest Industrial Estate.
Six runners from the club took part and having not partaken of the wicked brew on this Saturday Andrew Palmer saw a vast improvement in his performance and also ran a personal best coming home in a time of 1:10:15.
Next home was Steve Cray in 1:10:41, just pipping Debbie Evans who ran 1:10:50. It is great to see them both running so well and so close to each other gives them someone to work off.
Next was Steve Crandon, making his debut for the club. His time was 1:11:22 and this was three minutes faster than he had hoped to run.
Neil Hendry was next in with a steady 1:15:34.
Janice Clement completed the sextet running 1:27:12.
Well done to all those who took part.
