THREE burglars from Penarth who were responsible for a three-day string of thefts have been jailed for a total of more than 10 years.
The men were sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court, where they all pleaded guilty to burglary.
Michael Burgoyne, aged 21, of Kipling Close, was sentenced to three years and nine months after admitting two offences.
Wayne Mathias, aged 20, of St David's Crescent, was also jailed for three years and nine months.
Michael Stephen Morris, aged 33, of Shakespeare Avenue, was jailed for three years.
The trio began their crime spree on September 11, 2005 when they burgled a house in Penarth as the elderly owner was asleep in his bed.
Later that same day, they moved on to the Cardiff area where Morris committed a house burglary.
Two days later, Burgoyne burgled a commercial property in Dinas Powys.
Over the three-day spree, the trio stole jewellery, a leather jacket, bank cards, personal identification cards and a camera.
They also stole bank cards which they then used to pay for items of clothing and footwear.
Steve Siddall, Chief Inspector of the Vale of Glamorgan police, said: "These convictions are good news for the Vale.
"These criminals would have continued their offences and burglaries to cause more misery and distress to innocent people.
"Once again, the Vale of Glamorgan is proving one of the safest places in which to live and work.
"This is due to our excellent partnership working in the community and robust policing against criminals."
