Memories

I AM writing with regard to the Memories letter of Wally Davies (January 26) regarding his time spent at Sea View with his parents and their dog Laddie.

I and my two sisters lived at Sea View during the 1940s and I left in the summer of 1953 to go to London and became a secretary.

I attended Victoria Road school and then Albert Road when it became the Secondary Modern for Girls.

I remember donkey Daisy with great affection.

Also the beautiful house we all lived in, both boys and girls. There were 30 of us altogether, under the care of Sisters Lillian and Lily.

I went to school at Albert Road with Barbara Adams (now Enticknap); Annette Toogood; Shirley Robbins; Anita Williams; Kathleen Tonkin; Eileen Shire; Gaynor Jennings; and Jill Boucher, as well as many others.

I remember Penarth with great fondness. The esplanade, the pier, having a special treat for my 15th birthday of strawberries and ice cream with Sister Lillian on the pier.

We had such fun playing in our huge grounds on the swings, see-saws, huge slide and the sandpit that were donated to us.

We also enjoyed the large field and woods across Bradford Place that belonged to the home. Especially the Rainbow tree.

I got in touch with Barbara several years ago through Ann Mules after I found Ann on the internet, and Barbara has sent me old photos taken at Albert Road school and brought me up-to-date on most of the girls I had gone to school with.

Barbara"s husband let me know about the Penarth Times online, and I read it every Thursday.

Thank you Wally for bringing back such happy memories.
