Council to clean up car park

A PENARTH councillor has welcomed assurances from the Vale of Glamorgan Council that action will be taken to resolve anti-social behaviour and health-hazard issues causing concern for local residents at the Cliff Parade Car Park.

Cllr Anthony Ernest, who represents the Plymouth Ward on the Town Council, told the Penarth Times: "I have received complaints that unauthorised use of the car park has brought about problems for nearby residents. This is not new, but unfortunately the problems have not gone away.

"A longstanding complaint has been that, in the summer months, people are camping out on the putting green, and parking very large camper vehicles overnight in the car park itself, which causes disturbance to neighbours.

"There have also been problems with the large number of waste bins currently located in the car park, and many of these have been deliberately turned over, giving added problems of clearance, whilst also acting as an attraction to vermin.

"I have been asked whether a barrier could be placed within the car park to prohibit overnight use, but there are practical difficulties with 24 hour access by the Emergency Services.

"However, I have now received a very helpful letter from county councillor Geoff Cox, who has responsibility for these services in the Vale," said Cllr Ernest.

"He has reassured me - and hopefully my constituents - on a number of points.

"The issue of camping has been taken up with the Parks & Grounds Maintenance Division.

"The whole issue of placing recycling bins at this location is under review. The question of overnight parking within the car park, whilst difficult to enforce, is being monitored."
