Pupils can read in recycled comfort!

THE arrival of an unusual new reading area - a beach hut made of old drinks cartons - has brought a taste of summer for pupils at a Penarth school.

Produced for a ReWorked exhibition at the town's Washington Gallery, the hut, which has now been presented to Albert Primary at Albert Road, is the work of Anna Keleher.

For the exhibition, artists turned rubbish, such as the juice cartons, into useful and attractive items.

Cllr Lis Burnett, who represents the St Augustine's ward of Penarth, visited the exhibition and wondered if any of the exhibits could be useful for the local community.

She explained: "The exhibition carried the same message as the Council's'What's in your bin?' campaign in that we all need to think about what we throw away.

"Anna has not only made something that looks fantastic but it will be useful for the school.

"She has been extremely generous in donating the hut to the local school, and I'm pleased that we were able to help in a small way by getting it there."

Albert Primary headteacher Huw Jones said: "We're going to use the hut as a reading and imaginary play area for our younger children.

"I am extremely grateful to Maggie at the Gallery who has encouraged a wonderful working partnership between ourselves. Working with the community benefits pupils enormously as we see here today.

"A big thank you to Anna and the Washington Gallery for their kindness."
