Major boost for sport

DINAS POWYS councillors say that work on an 800,000 sports pavilion in the village should start later this year.

Cllor Margaret Randall said: "The approved Vale Council building budget for 2006/7 includes 800,000 for Parc Bryn Y Don.

"Contracts should be invited in April with a physical start later in the year."

A spokesperson for the Vale of Glamorgan Council confirmed that the project is all set to go ahead.

Cllr Chris Franks said: "This will be a major boost for sport in Dinas Powys. The design and layout is aimed to cater for the many demands of the different sports people.

"Along with the clubs, we have been battling to improve community facilities at Park Bryn y Don.

"The various sports clubs provide an excellent service for the public. The commitment to youth sport is a special feature that we want to encourage."

The new facilities will provide eight changing rooms, toilets, showers and a club room.

Vince Driscoll, chairman of Dinas Powys Football Club, said: "They have been a long time coming, but the new facilities will be a huge boost to all the sports teams of Dinas Powys.
