Ringer forced to pull out of Commonwealth Sevens

PENARTH rugby star Jamie Ringer has been forced to withdraw from the Wales Rugby 7s squad set to compete in the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

A cartilage injury has ruled the 29-year-old flanker, who was a pupil at St Cyres Comprehensive School, out of the games to be held at Melbourne's Telstra Dome.

His boots will be filled by 25-year-old Gwent Dragons stablemate and Welsh international Rhys Oakley.

The Sevens tournament will be played on March 16-17.

Wales have been drawn in Pool A along with New Zealand - the defending Commonwealth champions who won their sixth IRB Sevens title last season - plus Kenya and Namibia.
