Windsor face Dinas in opening league match

WINDSOR Under-18 Boys team faced Dinas Powis in a derby match to open their National Junior Club League campaign.

In the opening singles rubber, Dan Owen of Windsor was edged out 6-4 6-4 by Tom Walbyoff of Dinas in a close battle.

Tom Cole defeated Jake Clarke 6-3 6-0 to level the score at 1-1 before the match of the tie in which Tom Sidford beat Peter Booth 6-4 7-5 to take Windsor 2-1 ahead.

In the only doubles rubber, Cole and Sidford teamed up to beat Booth and Clarke 6-2 6-2 and record a 3-1 victory for Windsor.

With the match played in good spirits despite poor weather, both teams played some ferocious tennis in what was an impressive advert for our local teams in this National event.

Windsor Junior Section is fielding ten teams this year, boys and girls teams at U12, U14, U16 and U18 - with two boys teams at U12 and U16.

Squad training is beginning soon (probably Friday evenings) and all juniors involved will receive the relevant information shortly. We especially want some girls players to come forward!Please contact Rob Wedlake if you're interested.

Junior morning restarts after half term on Saturday, March 4.

The first session at 10am is for five to eight years, 10.45am to 11.30am for the intermediate group nine to 13 years and the older and more advanced group from 11.30 am to 12.15 pm.These sessions are open to all - members and non-members (2).
