No to mast

I AM writing regarding the campaign to stop a Vodafone 3G mobile phone mast from being erected at Clive Place, Penarth.

It should be noted that a recent report by the National Radiological Protection Board concluded that "while there is no hard evidence that mobile phone masts pose a health threat, particular attention should be given to minimise the exposure of potentially vulnerable groups, such as children, who may be particularly sensitive to radio waves."

The proposed location of the mast is only 50 yards away from a children"s nursery.

It would seem irresponsible to ignore the guidelines provided by the experts in this field.

Plaid Cymru tabled a motion at the National Assembly recently calling for tighter control on telephone masts. Unfortunately, the Labour Group of Assembly Members opposed this motion and it was subsequently defeated.

Some of those Labour Assembly Members stood up in the Assembly only six months ago calling for more stringent controls on mobile phone masts.

Indeed the Labour AM representing Pembrokeshire, Tamsin Dunwoody-Kneafsey, took her own children out of school when a mast was to be erected in the locality.

It would seem that Labour AMs when called to toe the party line are prepared to abandon personal convictions along with any concern for the safety of the general public.
