Barrage

A FEW comments about the proposed Barrage across the Severn (Penarth Times, March 23).

(1) For the generation of energy via turbines the Severn Estuary has the second highest tides in the world (No 1 Bay of Fundy Nova Scotia).

(2) One effect of global warming (according to recent scientific studies) will be a rise of one metre in overall global (CALM) sea level by the end of the century (if C02 emissions continue at present levels).

(3) Amongst consequences of such a rise (in the absence of defences - a barrage?) would be flooding of low lying areas.

Will those applications by the Neath businessman be a timely ""wake-up"" call to look after the fortunes of our grandchildren and great-grandchildren?
