IT was time to celebrate for Victoria Primary pupils as the new zebra crossing outside the school was officially opened.
As part of a wide-ranging programme of road safety improvements, the Vale of Glamorgan Council unveiled the new crossing at Cornerswell Road.
Set right outside the school, the crossing was officially opened by Vale Cabinet Member for Planning and Transportation and Deputy Leader Cllr Tony Williams.
The crossing was funded as part of the Welsh Assembly Government's Local Road Safety Grant helping to make routes safer for children walking to school.
Also attending were headteacher Dilwyn Samuel, school crossing patrol officer Margaret Regan, the school's junior road safety officers, and Vale road safety officers John Rogers and Jayne Jenkins who have been instructing children in the safe use of the crossing.
Vale senior road safety officer Mike Dacey said: "The Vale Council is delighted that this new facility will improve the safety of all pedestrians, especially the pupils of Victoria primary."
It is hoped that children and parents will use this new facility and especially when the school crossing patrol is not there to help them.
