Club"s plan for mast is dropped

ANTI-MAST campaigners have reason for celebration this week after Glamorganshire Golf Club pulled the plug on Vodafone plans to built a giant mast on its land.

Vodafone wanted to site a 60-ft mast plus three antennae and two microwave dishes in a corner of the club's car park.

Brian Williams, Secretary of Glamorganshire Golf Club, said: "The Captain and officers of the Club are keen to continue the harmonious relationship that has existed between the club and its neighbours over many years.

"We have without hesitation instructed our chartered surveyors to withdraw the planning application recently submitted to the Vale of Glamorgan Council for a mobile phone mast to be erected on its land at Lavernock Road, Penarth."

Cllr Anthony Ernest said: "I am very pleased that the golf club has come to this decision.

"It is great news for the residents of the Lavernock Road area who were very concerned about the impact this monstrous mast would have had on their local area.

"This towering metal structure would have totally destroyed the high amenity value of the area.

"I feel that the golf club have set an excellent example by listening to the concerns of local people. It's good that an amicable solution has been found."

Numerous residents have contacted the Penarth Times over the past few weeks expressing their concerns about the effect on their health a mast so close to their homes would have.
