Winners prepare to be cchampions of the furture

DANIEL Dyer and Ryan Thomson of Penarth ABC both reached the Welsh ABA Boxing finals on April 3, with both fighters putting on a great performance and winning a Welsh title each.

Daniel's opponent was Ieuen Reagan from Torfaen Warriors.

Reagan was a short, stocky lad with some nice boxing skills, but Danny's long left jab kept scoring, winning him the first round.

In the second round, Danny was told by coach Neil Munn to keep throwing the long jab and then to come through with a long right hand, as Reagan kept changing from southpaw to orthodox.

Neil told him to switch to the body once he had caught him with the right hand. Danny did this and by the end of the round Reagan was confused and knew he was losing.

In the third round Neil knew that Reagan was going to come out all guns blazing, so Danny was told to keep him on the end of the long jab and move. This Danny did and won convincingly by 17 points to six.

Ryan Thomson had a very similar opponent in Ryan Pallister of Cardiff YMCA.

Ryan was told to get behind his jab in the first round and step in with his right hand and then side step. Using this tactic Ryan won the first round.

Ryan was told by Neil to push Pallister back a bit in the second round and then to back off and let him come on to his shots.

Ryan showed fantastic grit and determination to win the third round after being told by Neil to go out and win if he wanted to be Welsh Champion.

Neil said: "The Penarth boys were fantastic. I am really proud of them."
