Cycle bridge

WHAT good news it was to hear our councillors give their full support to the construction of a pedestrian/cycle bridge over the River Ely at the local "State of the Area" meeting.

This bridge has been on the plans for many years and now, with the council's support, we have an opportunity to turn this dream into a reality.

Why is the bridge so important?

It is important because it will provide the children and teenagers of Penarth with the only safe walking and cycling route to the biggest attraction in South Wales, the £700m Sports Village development.

It's important because it will reduce the volume of traffic entering and leaving Penarth by providing would-be cyclists and walkers with a safe route into the heart of Cardiff via the Taff Trail.

It is important because Cogan railway station is only 400m from the Sports Village site and the bridge would enable visitors to the area to arrive by train rather than by car.

I urge our councillors to press ahead, meet with your opposite numbers in Cardiff and press the Assembly for funding.

The residents of Penarth are behind you.
