Generous Joe thanked

A LOCAL schoolboy has become Penarth Lifeboat s youngest fundraiser, after donating 50 of his own money to the charity.

Nine-year-old Joseph Pollock, from Dinas Powys, had spent months saving his pocket money and spare change, and last week was invited to the Lifeboat Station, where he handed over his donation.

Joseph, who goes to Sully Primary School, was treated to a VIP tour of the station and spent the evening meeting the lifeboat crew.

For the last few months, I ve been saving my spare change and I hope that the money I ve raised will be helpful to the lifeboat, said Joseph.

The reason I chose to raise money for the RNLI was because I saw an advert on TV which made me realise how important their work is.

The money raised by Joseph will go towards the RNLI s Crew Training Campaign - which provides the volunteer crews with the vital training they need to help save lives at sea.

Andy Petersen, Penarth Lifeboat training co-ordinator, said that Joseph was almost certainly the station s youngest fundraiser.

This is a great gesture from Joe and we are really grateful to him, he said. Who knows - maybe his generous actions will inspire other local children and school classes to do the same.
