LAST weekend the old red phone box on Clive Place at the bottom of Church Avenue was vandalised.
The windows were smashed, the door ripped off and thrown into the road and they had also attempted to pull off the roof.
Inside they had ripped off and stolen the handset.
I don"t know why anyone would feel inclined to perform an act like this on a charming and historical public facility that is in regular use.
It stayed this way all the weekend so on Monday I phoned the police.
I was surprised to learn that no-one else had reported this crime.
A police officer came to my house within the hour to tell me he had looked at the phone box and would be contacting BT.
The next day the phone box was restored to its former glory.
The handset is yet to be replaced but at least now it isn"t a hazard and an eyesore.
I"d like to thank the police and BT for dealing with this matter so promptly and efficiently.
