METAPHORICALLY speaking, some folk have the habit of "locking the stable door after the horse has bolted".
But our local council just has to be different!
I recently discovered that it is now relocking the gates of Alexandra Park after our local vandals have bolted into the night after late evening high jinx, ranging from ripping up the flowers and wrecking the seats to filling the fish pond with rubbish and finally...I hope... to axing some of the beautiful trees.
Thank goodness the little bird sanctuary was well protected!
I don"t really enjoy...or perhaps, I do...reminding the council through your columns at the time that it would regret joining the Windmill Theatre in London with its "we never close" policy.
The latter showed great wartime courage whilst our councillors, past and present, who voted for this silly idea should be ashamed.
Finally, if only to raise a smile regarding this issue, very recently I took my dog for her early evening walk in the park concerned, but still unaware of the council"s U-turn and failing to spot the new sign.
Imagine, therefore, my mixed feelings when I saw in the distance the exit gate being bolted.
This very senior citizen and his dog very nearly found themselves having to endure a long, lonely night.
