Assassins, espionage, giant squid, and mind-blowing adventure combine as one boy sets out to rescue his mentor. It’s a Jules Verne/Young Bond mash-up packed with monsters! A huge red tentacle gripped a sailor and whisked him above the deck. Dakkar caught the look of horror in his staring eyes as he vanished, dragged over the side and into the sea. Water rained down on the deck as more tentacles squirmed their way over the side and across the deck or through the rigging. Men’s shouts of anger or terror mingled with the odd gunshot. Prince Dakkar has been abducted from the streets of London and taken to the coastal residence of the mysterious Count Oginski. Here he discovers that the Count has been working on a top-secret machine: the world’s first submersible. But in a dangerous world of spies and secrecy, someone would do anything to capture Oginski’s invention. When the Count is kidnapped, Dakkar escapes in the submarine, only to face horrifying creatures of the deep, lethal giant squid and, above all, the sinister Cryptos who is hell-bent on taking over the world. Monster Odyssey: The Eye of Neptune is a seafaring spectacular that takes its inspiration from the classic Jules Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Imagining Captain Nemo’s young life, Jon Mayhew has packed his new adventure with pirates, conspiracies, deadly creatures and a thrilling pace that sets sail and never lets up. Jon Mayhew’s debut novel Mortlock was the most popular title in the 2011 Booked Up scheme. It was also shortlisted for the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize and has won several regional awards. His subsequent novels The Demon Collector and The Bonehill Curse have increased Jon’s fanbase and made him an author to go to for thrilling reads.

Paper Aeroplanes' EP, Little Letters, comes out mid May and they have been getting great radio support across BBC Wales, 6 Music and spot plays on Radio 1. Inspired by singers like Gillian Welch, Laura Veirs, Bjork, and Lucinda Williams, the album is very much focused on personal experiences the duo have had, such as songs like When The Windows Shook about a series of events in Sarah's home town of Milford Haven where in 1994 an explosion at one of the local oil refineries caused the windows in Sarah's family home to crack and in 1996 the Sea Empress oil spill disaster which ruined many local beaches and killed a lot of local wildlife. In 2011, 4 people died, including their neighbour, in another explosion at the Chevron Refinery near her home. Paper Aeroplanes have toured relentlessly around the UK, selling out venues and building an increasingly strong fanbase. Last year alone they played over 100 dates in the UK as well as some festivals including the Isle Of White and The Secret Garden. It was Sarah's past job in a little coffee house in Wales which inspired her to come up with inventive marketing strategies to expand their fanbase, which saw them in 2011 recording a 4 track EP, which they offered to a number of independent coffee shops around the UK. The cafes gave away the EP for free with every coffee order and in return the band promoted the coffee houses on the artwork of the EP.

British supporters have a new hero in the form of Tai Woffinden who makes a welcome return to the series and will also be challenging for glory in front of the patriotic crowd. Tai will be raising funds for Cancer Research UK in the run up to the British GP, by cycling 140 miles to Cardiff following his club race with Wolverhampton Wolves earlier in the week. Tai will be joined on the last leg of the journey from Newport to Cardiff by Tredegar’s own Paralympic cycling star, Mark Colbourne. Each of the GP riders will be competing for pole position and to take the Grand Prix title, but if you think have a special someone that is always number one for, you could win him/her a day to remember by nominating them for our special prize. We’ve teamed up with the Fogo British FIM Speedway Grand Prix organisers to offer a package for four to enjoy.
