In Bruges

In Bruges (18) **** - Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes, Brendan Gleeson and Clémence Poésy.

A BRITISH gangster film with real bite, the best since Sexy Beast, In Bruges may not be everyone's cup of tea but one things for sure - it's certainly different.

It has been criticised for being violent, the characters are nasty, the scenarios are out-of-the-ordinary but isn't that what gangsters are supposed to be?

One reviewer has compared it to Sexy Beast meets Pulp Fiction and it's certainly a tongue-in-cheek caper.

It's the tale of two sewer-mouthed Irish hoods Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson), who are on the run from the police after a disastrous cock-up at home.

The pair decide to hide out until the dust settles in the often referred to "Venice of the North" medieval Belgian city of Bruges.

Here our distinctly odd couple lie low and await the instructions, and wrath, of their less than happy boss Harry (Ralph Fiennes).

What follows is a city break with a difference filled with drugs, swearing and lashings of the old ultra violence - certainly one you're unlikely to contemplate when booking on lastminute.com.

And even if you don't enjoy the action, there's the consolation of the beautiful backdrop that could tempt you to check out this delightful jewel in the Belgian crown".
