TALENTED Russian violinist Alina Ibragimova will be in Gwent on Sunday for a concert at Monmouth’s Wyastone Concert Hall.
She will be playing and directing Britten Sinfonia in two Bach violin concertos, while the distinguished harpsichordist Maggie Cole will direct Bach's F minor keyboard concerto no 5.
The orchestra's leader, Jacqueline Shave, will direct pieces by Berg and Kurtág. They will be playing, against the fashion, on modern instruments.
Ibragimova has just carried off the 2009 Classical Brit Award and is the youngest-ever winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society's Emily Anderson Prize.
The Times said that she performs with "a mixture of total abandonment and total control that is in no way contradictory" and that she's "destined to be a force in the classical music firmament for decades to come".
Tickets (£18 and £15) for the performance, starting at 4.30pm, are available online at www.wvm.org.uk by phoning 01291 330 020 or at the door. For best seats, advance booking is advised.
