THE Fig Tree, Penarth is staging a charity dinner on Wednesday, March 19, to raise funds for cat rescue and welfare charity, SHUA (Safe House for Unwanted Animals).
The charity is staffed entirely by volunteers, and runs a 24-hour emergency helpline, as well as re-homing approximately 250 cats and kittens every year.
Mike Caplan-Hill and Sandie Guppy, who own The Fig Tree, are keen animal lovers.
"The charity costs about £52,000 per annum to run, as vets bills and feeding costs for so many animals are steep," says Mike.
"We organised a charity dinner last year, and raised about £700, as well as receiving many donations of cat food and other useful items from our guests. We are hoping to beat last year’s cash collection, and to donate even more essential items to SHUA this time. As charities are still being hit by the economic downturn, our contribution is more important than ever."
The four-course charity dinner costs £25 per head, with £10 from each guest going to SHUA.
