A FUNDRAISING night in aid of an animal rescue charity is set to be held at The Fig Tree – nearly two weeks after a barn owl flew into the restaurant.

The animal was fed and looked after by the restaurant owners, Mike Caplan and Sandie Guppy, before it was eventually returned to its rightful owner.

Jacqui Burgess, founder and treasurer of Safe House for Unwanted Animals, said it was a funny coincidence that the owl should make an appearance shortly before their the fundraiser in aid of their charity on Wednesday, March 19.

“It’s not every day you get an owl in an a la carte restaurant,” she said.

“They didn’t ring the RSPCA, they rang us as they knew we would know what to do."

Proceeds raised from the night, to be held next Wednesday, March 19, will go towards the Safe House for Unwanted Animals (SHUA) charity.

Last year’s event at the Penarth Esplanade based restaurant raised nearly £1,000 for the charity and it’s hoped that this year’s event can be just as successful.
