THE TOBY Carvery in Penarth is appealing for local schools to take part in its Chef School programme to teach children the importance of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

The initiative, which offers free educational sessions and meals for children aged between 6-10, has been relaunched after being updated and created in partnership with primary school teachers.

The improved lesson plan and teaching materials actively promote Government campaigns to encourage healthy eating, and fully support the new PHSE curriculum which teaches the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.

Now classes of up to 30 children are being invited down to the restaurant on Barons Court for a two hour session, involving exciting games and educational activities, a meet and greet with the restaurant team as well as a complimentary meal at lunchtime for pupils and teachers.

Neil Dunning, general manager at Toby Carvery Barons Court, said, “We’re really excited to launch the Chef School this year as we have worked hard on making sure the lesson fits the KS1 and KS2 curriculum’s focus on healthy eating.

"Our visits therefore are a great way to teach children about vegetables and healthy eating in a unique behind-the-scenes experience.

“We’ve had some brilliant feedback from teachers and pupils who have previously taken part in Chef School and can’t wait to get more schools on board with the initiative."

He added: “A traditional roast dinner is a simple, tasty way of incorporating those all-important five-a-day and our workshops equip children with the information they need in order to make healthier food choices."

Each pupil who takes part in a Toby Carvery Chef School will receive a goody bag which includes; a Chef School certificate, chef hat, sticker collector booklet which includes a free ice-cream voucher and a free child’s carvery voucher for the next time they visit with their parents or guardian.

Teachers and parents who are looking to register interest in a free Toby Carvery Chef School visit should visit www.tobycarvery.co.uk/chefschool or speak to their local Toby Carvery restaurant manager.
