DO you belong to the maturer age group and value your independence? Are you at a loose end? Do you have some spare time?

If any of these fit you then those of us at the Penarth Live-at-Home Scheme would love to meet you. Please do come along and find out more about us at our open meeting on Friday, April 25, at 2.15pm in Trinity Church Day Centre.

The Live-at-Home benefits older people in our community who may feel isolated and unable to get about as they used to.

It is a local set up supported by volunteers who help with the activities. There is a lunch club every weekday, coffee is served daily from 10.30am until noon, and an information service points people to the service they need.

On Friday there is a friendship club when volunteers use their cars to bring the housebound for an afternoon of activities and chat over a cup of tea. We also organise well supervised day trips to places and events chosen by members.

For example at Christmas some of us went to 'Singing in the Rain', last week to the Abbey Mill at Tintern, and travelled on the railway at Gwili.

The members of the scheme are both the older people who use its services and the volunteers, and both have a say in the direction of the scheme and are encouraged to make suggestions.

If you could see your way to helping us or if you know someone who might be interested in joining as a user why not bring them along on Friday, April 25, at Trinity.
