CURLING
SCOTLAND'S teams are in action today in the opening games of this year's Ford World Curling Championships in Hamilton, Ontario.
Two weekends ago, Scotland's junior champions came home from their world championships, also in Canada, with a silver and gold - James Dryburgh of Aviemore having retained the men's title that Tom Brewster of Lockerbie had won in 1995 - and this week's teams could well add to that medal haul.
Warwick Smith, a newcomer at this level, leads the men's team of David Hay, Peter Smith, and David Smith, all of whom struck gold in Winnipeg in 1991. Their fifth player is Richard Dickson.
Kirsty Hay's team of sisters Katie and Edith Loudon, her own sister Karen Addison, and fifth player Claire Milne, represent Scotland for the fourth time in succession and already have silver from the European Championships earlier this season.
Hay's improving team face three former world champions - Dordi Nordby of Norway, Germany's Andrea Schopp, and Canada's Marilyn Bodogh.
