THE recent Dinas Powys Music Festival was a tremendous success as usual, with the jewel in the crown being the newly formed singing group 'Forte'. Under the baton of Mark Thompson (late of the Ray Dibble Music Society), who now chairs the Music Festival committee, this delightful ensemble entertained and charmed full houses on two consecutive nights.

A good looking ensemble, their individual singing styles and ranges blended perfectly and what a joy to hear solos from each of the performers, not heard since the old Anwen Little Theatre and Ray Dibble days. Highlights included a medley from the musical Grease, with dashing Mark Thompson in the Travolta role, the lovely Lucy Llewellyn (nee Curtin) whose voice just gets better and the power ballad My Life from the deep soul voice of Penarth’s Catherine Scott was a show stopper.

If you missed this powerful concert – or if you would like to see Forte again, they are performing a Gala Night Concert at the Everyman Open Air Theatre Festival on Sunday, July 6, at 8pm in Sophia Gardens.

The Everyman annual festival of music and drama, Wales’ largest open-air theatre event which has been running for over 30 years, has relocated from St Fagans and this is the second year that they are in their new abode at Sophia Gardens.

The audiences are undercover, where comfy padded seats, on-site bar, toilets and close proximity parking await. The Forte concert will be performed inside the auditorium stand if raining.
