THE classic Sondheim Musical of romance and desire, A Little Night Music, will be performed over three days at the Paget Rooms Theatre, Penarth. From Thursday, September 18 until Saturday, September 20 make sure you catch this funny, bittersweet comedy musical that celebrate the desperation and delights of romantic attraction.

The musical follow a trio of mismatched couples as they try to find their way to love. Primarily centred on a lawyer, Fredrick Egerman, and the loves in his life, Fredrick finds himself caught between the love of his beautiful young wife Anne, a marriage still unconsummated, and the lure of an old flame, the glamorous actress Desiree Armfeldt.

As chance would have it, Desiree is currently involved with dashing, but dim, officer and nobleman, Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm, whose wife just happens to be a friend of Egerman's young spouse. When Desiree invites Frederick and his family to her mother's country estate and the Count invites himself, all their Edwardian manners are tested to the full in this witty, funny and often poignant tale of love and desire. Chaos and merriment ensues: tears and recriminations, duels and seduction lead the way to a surprising resolution for all concerned in this delightful piece of theatre.

One of greatest living composers, Stephen Sondheim, is famous for many musicals including Sweeney Todd and Company, as well as the lyrics for West Side Story and Gypsy. This five-time Tony Award-winning musical takes its story and theme from Ingmar Bergman's highly respected film, Smiles of a Summer Night (1955) and was most recently successfully revived on Broadway with Angela Landsbury and Catherine Zeta Jones.
