BIG Country will be celebrating 30 years on the road with their show ‘Steeltown: 30th Anniversary Tour’. They will be performing at The Globe, Cardiff on Saturday, November 1 and will be playing songs from their multi-million selling album Steeltown.

The triple Grammy-winning Big Country announce their first ever show at The Globe on this extra-special anniversary tour.

Regarded by many as an ultimate classic, Steelhouse shot straight to number one in the album charts in October 1984, and was awarded the Gold certification shortly afterwards. Their second studio album; it was recorded at ABBA’s Polar Studios in Stockholm, with Steve Lillywhite on production.

Frontman Bruce Watson remembers the time well – amid the nationwide strife back in the UK, fully in the grip of the Miners Strike: “We started work on Steeltown back in June 1984. We worked in Studio One as Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber worked on ‘Chess’ next door. Stockholm felt like the most expensive place on earth – it’s as if we were on a different planet to how things were back home – my dad was a miner, so what we did was knuckle down to hard work for six weeks”.

The band will perform songs from the album as well as classic hits and live favourites including Harvest Home, Fields of Fire, In A Big Country (which sold over 2 million copies), Chance Wonderland, Look Away, The Teacher, and more.

Big Country’s current line-up comprises Bruce Watson (guitars/vocals), Mark Brzezicki (drums, vocals), Jamie Waston (guitars/vocals), and former Simple Minds’ bassist/vocalist Derek Forbes, as well Simon Hough – ex-front man for Denny Laine (Wings) and Eric Bell (Thin Lizzy).

This is one of the strongest groups of musicians we will have the pleasure of hosting this year. Don’t miss your chance to get tickets.

Tickets to see Big Country cost £20 in advance and to attend you must be 14 and over. Visit www.globecardiffmusic.com for details.
