ON Friday, October 24 at St David’s Hall, the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra starts its sensational new season in style with a spectacular concert.

The evening will feature Saint Saëns' hugely popular Organ Symphony, the most famous work written for organ and large orchestra. Jeffrey Howard will bring its unmistakable sound to life as organ soloist.

Opening the show is Wagner's monumental overture to his opera Die Meistersinger (Prelude to Act I). Those captivating sounds will then give way to Franz Liszt's Piano Concerto No.1 in E Flat, led by soloist Alexander Ullman. Liszt was the piano virtuoso of the 19th century. Handsome and charismatic, it is said that women would swoon at the mere sight of him. His larger than life personality is perfectly embodied in Ullman's immaculate playing.

The concert closes to the unforgettable sound of Saint Saëns' Symphony No.3 in C Minor Organ Symphony. There is a game of musical connections between the three composers on the programme, all will be revealed on the night.

Replacing the iconic conductor and founder of the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra Michael Bell, will be one of the most exciting and innovative talents of her generation. For this special performance, Tianyi Lu will take hold of the conductor's baton.

Joining Tianyi is another promising young star in pianist Alexander Ullman, who has toured much of the world already despite currently completing his Masters in Performance at the Royal College of Music.

Furthermore, organ soloist Jeffrey Howard is a musician of vast experience and pedigree. Born in Cardiff, Jeffrey studied at the University of Wales College and the Royal Academy of Music where he specialised in organ performance and church music. Since then he's performed as an organist, pianist, singer, coach and conductor at a multitude of prestigious venues including London's Royal Albert Hall and the Goethe Instiute in Brussels.
