ON Friday, November 21, Penarth Acoustic Club will take over the Room at the Top at The Royal British Legion, Station Approach, Penarth, for its inaugural evening of live entertainment.
The evening will showcase the talents of invited musicians, both local and from further afield, to perform in an intimate and relaxed setting.
“We are aiming to take live music literally to new heights in the cosy surroundings of the top floor of The Legion, and create an atmosphere where polished performers can play to an appreciative audience” said Phil Nedin, co-founder of the club. “To help achieve this, I’ve brought together Adrian Lewis of Pencerdd Music – founder member of Penarth Folk/Blues Club which many will remember fondly in its heyday in the 80s and 90s – and Nick Treharne, a founder member of the highly successful Penarth Songwriters’ Circle”.
On the night there will be performances by guests Stephanie McNicholas and John Marshall of The Cheatin’ Hearts, Geraint Williams who is a wonderful folk/roots singer from Bridgend, and actor Wil Thomas who will be performing extracts from the work of Dylan Thomas.
Also making an appearance on the stage will be the three hosts Phil Nedin, Adrian Lewis and Nick Treharne.
“It’s quite a climb up to the Room at the Top”, continued Phil, “but we are sure that true music lovers who are looking for something different to the many open mic sessions that are available will find it well worth it. Our aim is to run the club on each third Friday of the month and to feature a variety of performers. In the future, there will be opportunities for writers, poets and even stand up comedians to be in the spotlight”.
The Penarth Acoustic Club will open at 7.30pm with performances beginning at 8.30pm. The club can only seat around forty people so it is advisable to get your ticket in advance which costs £5 each, with proceeds going back into the club.
