ON Friday, November 28, Penarth Songwriters’ Circle will welcome former Boo Radleys hit songwriter Martin Carr, banjo wielding Canadian rabble-rouser Darren Eedens and London folk virtuoso George Frakes.

The ever popular bi-monthly event continues to attract some of the finest song writing talent in the country and overseas to perform at the intimate surroundings of All Saints Church Hall, Penarth.

Originally from Wallesey, Merseyside, Martin Carr was the chief songwriter and lead guitarist with the British band The Boo Radleys. Signed to Creation Records alongside Oasis and Primal Scream they ascended through the ‘shoegaze’ indie rock scene and later enjoyed chart success during the mid 90’s with the top 10 single Wake Up Boo! The band split in 1999 and Martin Carr has since released several albums under the name ‘Brave Captain’. He recently released a brand new album ‘The Breaks’, under his own name which has been critically acclaimed.

Darren Eedens is a Canadian honky tonkin’ roots musician from Toronto. An old soul with the imagination of a child, he tells stories, bends truths, and creates upbeat rhythmic tracks with haunting lyrics. Influenced and inspired by the folk and bluegrass pickers of the past, his unique and powerful voice can captivate anyone within earshot. With an unmatched live energy, he shares his views on life and death, shedding a beautiful light on a tragic tale. Performing with banjo, guitar and mandolin as his weapons of choice he is an arresting and extremely hard working solo performer who has entertained and thrilled crowds all over Canada, USA, Europe and the UK. His new album ‘Of My Word’ is firm proof of his dynamic talents.

Folk songwriter George Frakes has emerged from the fog of London town with a formidable finger-picked guitar style comparable to such greats as Nick Drake or Richard Thompson. He also possesses a voice full of searching spiritual emotion. Frakes became a much sought after figure on the British folk scene after releasing his debut EP 'Ghost Of The Girl' in 2011 to much critical acclaim. He has been personally invited to support such prestigious acts as Foy Vance, Otis Gibbs and Frank Turner and continues to win new fans wherever he goes. He is a captivating musician and songwriter guaranteed to impress with his remarkable instrumental, vocal and song writing talents.

Rave reviews are sweeping in for the ‘Songwriters Circle’ format from delighted spectators and performers. The bi-monthly event has now become a very popular fixture in the local music calendar. With all three singer-songwriters sitting side by side on stage, taking it in turns to perform, it creates a warm and intimate atmosphere that breaks down barriers, encourages unique collaborations and presents fascinating insights into the stories and inspirations behind the songs.
