THE SAFE Foundation is excited to announce the legendary Cardiff Christmas Meltdown, a huge charitable event.

The Meltdown has been a staple of the Cardiff music scene over 25 years and after a few years off it made a spectacular and successful return last year with a hastily organised event in support of aid for the Philippines disaster.

This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever with an all day and all night extravaganza held on all floors of the Moon Club and Full Moon and Clwb Ifor Bach on December 21.

The events start at 2pm in the Moon Club, with doors opening at 7pm in Clwb Ifor Bach, with over 30 brilliant bands and comedy acts booked. Acts are still being added to the eclectic line up.

At Clwb Ifor Bach you’ll see the massive brass party band Wonderbrass, Caldicot Folk heroes Rusty Shackle, veteran skifflers Railroad Bill and Stoner Rock legends Howl, and will conclude with a two hour downstairs soul party with Penarth Soul Club.

At The Moon Club and The Full Moon we will see, amongst many others, Bristols 7-piece bluegrassers Screaming Miss Jackson and The Slap Ya Mama Big Band, Hip Hoppers Tommy and The Trouble, one man comedy double bass machine Grant Sharkey, and South Wales biggest community samba band, Samba Galez.

A small Christmas Market will be held upstairs in the Full Moon with stalls from a wide range of businesses. All ticket sales will be going towards SAFE.

Dan Nichols, of Railroad Bill, who was also a part of the old Meltdown committee, Owen Bowley of The Moon and Richard “Chill” Hawkins of Clwb Ifor Bach have got together to make the night happen. Dan said “it’s wonderful to see the music scene of Cardiff and beyond coming together for this true classic of Christmas in Cardiff, especially as it’s for a great cause like The Safe Foundation!”

Hannah Fitt (SAFE Director) says “We’re proud to be a part of Cardiff’s biggest music event this Christmas, with so many amazing artists and performers supporting the SAFE Foundation. We’re sure it’s going to be an amazing party and we’d like everyone to come to this year’s essential Christmas Meltdown!”
