MERCURY Music Prize nominees The Unthanks will be performing at St David’s Hall, Cardiff on Thursday, February 26, 2015.

They will bring their brand of Northumbrian folk to the Theatre following a new single and album.

The Tyneside sisters, Rachel and Becky have released their latest single Mount the Air on this December. Plus, the version of the song on this EP is a different interpretation to the one appearing on the forthcoming album of the same name (out on Monday, February 9, 2015).

Over the last decade, The Unthanks have established a devoted following including the likes of Elvis Costello, Sting, Ryan Adams, Colin Firth, Ewan McGregor and Nick Hornby.

The group consists of the siblings plus Rachel’s husband Adrian McNally, who acts as pianist, producer, arranger and composer. Using the traditional music of the North-East of England as a starting point, The Unthanks are also influenced by Miles Davis, Tom Waits, Robert Wyatt and Steve Reich.

Since bursting onto the scene with their 2005 debut Cruel Sister, the group has received widespread critical acclaim and enhanced their reputation as one of Britain’s most experimental and innovate folk acts with the Diversions trilogy. Their eighth album Mount the Air promises to be equally ambitious and imaginative. The studio sound will be replicated perfectly onstage by a talented 10-piece band.

If you like the folky grandeur of Elbow and Arcade Fire, or the delicate piano melodies of Anthony and the Johnsons, you won’t want to miss The Unthanks.

Tickets are on sale now priced at £18 each, plus a £2.95 ticket service charge per transaction.
