CERI Lambert, a collage artist from Penarth, will have her work displayed at the Steak of the Art Gallery until April 6.

She has become the first Welsh artist to have her work displayed at the exciting new gallery and restaurant in the centre of Cardiff.

Three pieces from her current collection are on display for sale and comments from customers have been overwhelmingly positive.

Ceri’s work is made up of thousands of buttons and handmade badges and has been popular at craft fairs and events for the last two years since she set up ‘Ceri Lambert Designs’.

This is her first experience of displaying at a gallery alongside other artists and she’s proud and excited to have the honour of being the first Welsh artist to have work displayed at the eclectic venue on Churchill Way.

She is already familiar in Penarth as Ceri has displayed pieces at Foxy’s Deli and her button portraits of Hollywood icons have been on loan to Restaurant James Sommerin since before Christmas.

Ceri credits both businesses with helping her develop her art and support her first steps in presenting her work to a wider audience.

Artist Ceri Lambert said: “I’m fascinated by human perception and how we form shapes and patterns even where none exist; a hangover from my psychology degree days! I love working with buttons and circular objects precisely because it’s so difficult to create something simple like a straight line. People often remark that my artworks are a little like optical illusions that are best appreciated from a distance. However the buttons I collect and badges I make are little works of art in themselves so the pieces can be enjoyed from a close-up perspective too. I think that’s why people find them so fascinating.”
