PENARTH Acoustic Club is back on Friday, May 15 at the Conservative Club, Penarth. Once again it will feature an evening full of quality music and verse, a format that has proved so successful to date.

Performing will be The Scott-McNicholas Experience featuring pianist Sue Scott and singer Steph McNicholas. Sue, an Associate of the London College of Music has been playing the piano since she was six while Steph has sung in bands since her teens. Formed five years ago, the duo performs songs from the “Great American Songbook” and has performed at shows across South Wales. Expect to hear classics from George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Rogers and Hart – as well as a few surprises.

Also appearing will be the multi- talented Maxwell James. A graduate of Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Max has worked in theatre, TV and film throughout the UK, as well as Europe, the Middle East and Far East. As a singer-songwriter, Max was a founder member of Cheviot Hill, an accomplished six piece soul/folk/country band and winner of Varsity Battle of the Bands. Today he performs with the 50’s/60’s style four part vocal group 57 Chevy and comes to the club having just performed on board an Atlantic cruise ship with the jazz/swing harmony act, The Fly Boys. Max also undertakes solo appearances whenever he can to showcase his song writing talents and is currently working towards producing a new EP.

The night will also include poetry/story reading arranged by Griffin Books of Penarth, together with performances from hosts Adrian Lewis, Phil Nedin and Nick Treharne.

“The night keeps growing in popularity, so this month we are hoping to increase our capacity whilst also providing more spacious and comfortable surroundings for the audience”, said Phil Nedin. To do this, the club is switching to a larger room where bar facilities will also be available.

Doors will open at 7.30pm for performances to begin at 8.15pm.

Tickets cost £5 each and it is strongly advised to get them in advance due to the limited space available at the venue.
