A RANGE of events will be on offer for all ages during the May half term, at Porthkerry and Cosmeston Country Parks.

Rangers at Porthkerry Country Park are inviting nature enthusiasts to join them on their Nature at Night expedition on Thursday, May 21.

As part of the Vale’s Walking Festival, the Porthkerry Rangers have organised a short night-time walk around the meadows, ponds, and woods of the park, hunting for nocturnal animals.

Bat detectors will be provided, but a strong torch and suitable, warm clothes are essential.

The walk will set off from the Forest Lodge at 8.30pm, returning at around 10pm. Children are more than welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs, however, are not allowed.

On Wednesday, May 27 the Rangers are calling for treasure seekers to join the Go Wild scavenger hunt.

There is a sheet of riddles to solve and 10 special items to find, before returning with the answers to collect your prize.

The hunt begins at the golf hut at 10am, runs until 3.30pm, and costs £2.50 per child.

And for those closer to Cosmeston, Rangers there are organising a children’s pond dip and bug hunt for seven to 11-year-olds to discover the park’s fascinating mini beasts.

The hunt is also on Wednesday, May 27. The cost is £2.50 per child, and booking is essential due to limited spaces. The hunt starts at the Rangers’ Office at 9.45am.
