PENARTH Music Co-op is holding an evening of alternative 1950s sounds and is inviting people to turn up and dress up in style.

On Friday, May 22, a DJ will play original and perhaps less obvious tracks from the 1950s at The Windsor Ale House on Windsor Road, Penarth.

The night will resonate with cool jazz, R&B, blues, rockabilly and alternative rock and roll sounds. There will be everything from Miles Davis to Johnny Cash and from Howlin Wolf to Dave Brubeck, Gene Vincent and Charlie Mingus.

Entry is free and people are encouraged to dress up in anything vintage, 1950s and cool but everyone is invited regardless.

More evenings will be planned at The Windsor to celebrate other decades. The idea is to play the less obvious tunes, songs that have become cult classics.

A 1960s evening will highlight American garage bands, psychedelic, cult soul, rocksteady and film soundtracks. Another featuring 1970s music will celebrate prog rock, new wave and funk with a further night of 1980s sounds that will include indie, post disco and hip hop.

These are put on by Karl Eldridge of the Penarth Music Co-op. This local co-op have put on several name acts at The Windsor including Ed Tudor Pole (Tenpole Tudor), TV Smith (of new wave band The Adverts) and punk poet Attila The Stockbroker.

These gigs have been punctuated by several fundraisers and the co-op hopes to put on an increasing number of events in and around Penarth.
