ART Central, the Vale of Glamorgan Council's gallery, hosted the opening of "The Welsh Salon of Photography" organised by the Welsh Photographic Federation (WPF).

Following a meticulous selection process, a total of 250 printed and projected images from entrants from all over the country were exhibited, displaying some of the very best of Welsh Photography.

The event was opened by Jane Hutt AM who spoke with pride about Barry’s own Camera Club, who will be having a dedicated exhibition in Art Central during August.

Awards and certificates were then presented to worthy competition prize winners by Federation President and Portfolio Officer, Vince Penticost.

"In the 55 years of exhibiting the Welsh Photography Salon Competition in venues across Wales," he said, "Art Central Gallery has been the best venue yet, and everyone visiting has been very, very impressed with the space.”

Formed in 1951, the WPF is an affiliation of more than 50 photography clubs across Wales, with the aim to promote and raise the standards of Welsh photography.

It gives keen photographers in clubs across the country an opportunity to submit a range of images for competition, from traditionally printed monochrome to digitally enhanced or manipulated colour works.

The Welsh Salon of Photography exhibition will be open at Art Central on King Square, Barry until Saturday, May 30. Entry is free and the gallery is accessible for all. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
