FORMER Penarth composer, Danny Chang, will be back to do a one-off gig at the Globe, Cardiff, and has teamed up with his old band mate, vocalist and song-writing partner Nigel Voyle.

The last time Danny and Nigel worked together was over 30 years ago. They played in the band 'Singapore' which after an appearance at Reading Festival in 1982 changed their name to 'Just Good Friends' securing a recording contract with Magnet records.

“At the time we were being hailed as Britain's answer to Hall and Oates. Our debut single 'One Night' received extensive airplay and was critically acclaimed but just didn't sell” recalls Chang.

“We were lined up to tour with Simple Minds but we were pulled at the last minute and dropped from the label. Nigel and I carried on working together in a duo called 'Two Just Men' to make ends meet while we continued looking for a recording contract. Inevitably we went our separate ways and lost contact with each other”.

Now 31 years on, after Danny divorced he shut down his Beach Road studio, left Penarth and moved to a remote village called Garway where just for fun he formed the band 'There was a Crooked Man'.

“We decided to record an album but were looking for a particular kind of vocalist” said Chang.

“So I just called Nigel out of the blue and asked him whether he fancied singing and penning a couple of songs for the album and thankfully he agreed. We recorded the album over the summer of 2014 and the single from the album 'Everythings Going My Way Now' was used in a German movie and we have now been picked up by the BBC introducing and invited to play Lakefest festival where we are being filmed for BBC for their iPlayer.” Not bad for a couple of 60 plus aged rock gods.

'There Was A Crooked Man' will perform on Friday, June 19, to launch their debut album.
