AS part of the Summer Festival, Penarth's Rocking Roots annual summer ball will be held at the Paget Rooms on Saturday, July 4.

Headlining the ball will be The Rimshots, which will be their first concert in Wales in seven years. Supported by Penarth’s top rocking blues band Mellow Down Easy, who have been making a name for themselves on the British Blues scene with their amazing musicianship. Riffs & Quiffs DJ Liam Curtin will be spinning the Shellac to keep the dance floor buzzing in between bands.

The Rimshots fronted by Penarth’s own John Lewis gained universal respect from musicians, industry professionals and audiences alike by playing their own style and mix of rockabilly, western swing and skiffle.

They have been described by music industry critics as the best Country/Rockabilly band in Europe. They have worked with artistes Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Comets, Narvel Felts, Wanda Jackson, rockabilly legend Mac Curtis to Van Morrison to name a few.

They built up a strong following worldwide, touring for 19 years, playing venues 20 miles from the Russian Border, most of Europe to shows on Broadway, New York and Las Vegas. With lots of local shows in the early years around Penarth, Cardiff and South Wales.

They released five popular albums and their Hank Williams Tribute album was awarded The Best British Country Album of the year in the CMA Awards 1999.

They only play four or five shows a year together as they are all busy in other musical projects.

A bar will be provided hosting local real ales, a selection of wines, cold beers and soft drinks at reasonable prices.

Tickets are £8 and will be on Sale at Pencerdd Music Penarth. Doors open at 7pm.
