AN OBVIOUSLY guilty-looking dog melted the hearts of art critics after going on display at Barry train station’s cafe-gallery.

Barry artist Julia Gracey-Cox’s soft pastel pet portrait was a hit at the opening of the Summer Open Exhibition at Barry Travellers Gallery.

Local artist Bernard van Lierop opened the exhibition and commented on the high quality and diversity of the works submitted for the exhibition which is open to all local artists, both amateur and professional.

Mr van Lierop praised the artistic achievements of the little gallery which operates as both cafe and art venue on Platform One of Barry Railway Station.

The enterprise is run by the mental health charity MIND in the Vale and VOGA, Vale of Glamorgan Artists.

He celebrated the ten-year partnership which has brought many benefits, from social interaction for people with mental health issues to a tranquil moment in front of a painting for busy travellers.

He said: "We believe in the value to well-being and good health of not only making but also enjoying art."

The gallery is open weekdays 7am to midday.

The exhibition runs until Friday, August 7.

The next exhibition features the work of Barry artist Charles Byrd, born in 1916, whose magical machines have delighted generations.

The next opportunity for local artists to submit their work is the Winter Open Exhibition.
