AT Glamorgan Archives they will be holding an event in partnership with the Parliamentary Archives on the De Montfort project.
The project is an outreach programme, which celebrates the 750th anniversary of the meeting of Simon de Monfort's Parliament.
The Parliament 750 project explores the life and impact of local MPs and Peers on both their local area and at Parliament. At Glamorgan Archives they will be looking at former Merthyr Tydfil MP, S O Davies, and his work to improve workplace compensation legislation, which had a direct affect not only on his constituents, but on men and women working in industry across Wales and the UK.
On Wednesday, August 12, Dr Mike Mantin from Swansea University's Disability and Industrial Society project will give a talk entitled '"Even a Day out means that Someone Must Go Short": Welfare for Disabled People in the British Coalfields, 1880-1940’ at 2.30pm.
Come along to discover more about the support available for disabled workers in the coalfield during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Documents relating to the themes under discussion, drawn from the Collection at Glamorgan Archives, will be available to view following the events.
Places can be booked by searching for the event title on Eventbrite or by contacting Glamorgan Archives on 02920 878299 or email glamro@cardiff.gov.uk.
