BRITAIN’S favourite pop-rock band, Squeeze, will be performing at St David’s Hall following the release of their first new album in 17 years.

Joining them on their tour will be the ‘Bard of Salford’ punk poet Dr John Cooper Clarke.

Squeeze will perform on Friday, October 9, in support of their first studio album since 1998 entitled From the Cradle to the Grave, which will feature prominently in a forthcoming TV comedy starring Peter Kay.

Since first forming in 1974, Squeeze has lovingly chronicled everyday life with witty and observational lyrics accompanied by the catchiest melodies. Their winning formula has seen their music endure over the last four decades and achieve considerable UK chart success.

Their first tour in three years will consist of tracks from their new album, plus classics from their extensive back catalogue including number two hits Cool for Cats and Up the Junction as well as fan favourites like Labelled with Love.

Leading the group are the Ivor Novello award-winning duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, who were first brought together by an ad for the band in a sweetshop window.

Squeeze broke up in 1999 due to the breakdown in the relationship of the song writing partnership. Thankfully, they fixed that fragile bond in 2007, and have now returned to the studio and the road much to the delight of their loyal fans.

Support on the tour will come from iconic punk poet, Dr John Cooper Clarke, who shot to fame in the 1970s due to his quick-fire, dry, biting and hilarious satirical verse. Known for his tousled hair and sharp suits, Clarke even toured at the height of punk with the likes of The Sex Pistols and The Clash.

His trademark delivery and uproarious live shows have established Clarke with a firm cult following thanks to classics like (I Married A) Monster from Outer Space, Evidently Chickentown and Kung-Fu International. In more recent years, he’s collaborated with Reverend and the Makers, Inspiral Carpets, Plan B and Arctic Monkeys. He’s even voiced a poem for McCain about his love of chips, and his poetry has formed part of the GCSE syllabus

Tickets cost £32.50 and £47.50 (plus a £2.95 ticket service charge per transaction).
