PENARTH Songwriters’ Circle is back and will celebrate their third anniversary on Friday, November 27 with a very special line-up.

Chart topping songwriter and Ed Sheeran collaborator Amy Wadge will make a welcome return, alongside London cult icon Michael J Sheehy and Welsh Music Prize winner Georgia Ruth.

All three will perform at All Saints Church, Penarth.

Amy Wadge’s career has gone from strength to strength since her last appearance at Penarth Songwriters’ Circle two years ago. Amy’s most notable success comes from her long established writing partnership with, Ed Sheeran.

She co-wrote ‘Thinking Out Loud’ which was added to Ed’s second album, the triple Grammy nominated, ‘X’. It was eventually released as a single and went to number one in the UK chart in November 2014 after spending 19 weeks in the Top 40, breaking the record for the longest ever ascent to the peak position.

‘Thinking Out Loud’ has now become the first ever single to spend a full year in the UK top 40. Amy has since worked with Country Music superstars LeAnn Rimes and Keith Urban and continues to be one of Wales’ most prolific and successful songwriters.

Kentish Town cult icon Michael J Sheehy once fronted mid 90s rock band Dream City Film Club, who released three excellent albums on the Beggars Banquet label before he embarked on a solo career.

Drawing upon his deep love of folk, blues, gospel and country, his well lived songs deal with the darker side of life while also managing to convey a resilient and wry sense of humour.

He has built an extremely dedicated fan base over the years via tours with Kristin Hersh, Tindersticks, Ed Harcourt and John Cale.

With five solo albums under his belt Michael now focuses his talents on the ferocious blues/gospel power of the band Miraculous Mule, so this rare solo performance will be real treat.

Georgia Ruth is an award winning, bi-lingual singer-songwriter and harpist originally from Aberystwyth.

In 2013 her debut album ‘Week of Pines’ won the prestigious The Welsh Music Prize for ‘Album of The Year’.

From the motoric drive of the title track to the stark joyfulness of a Welsh sea shanty, or the more wistful folk ballads, she has a varied and beguiling approach to songwriting.

Georgia made a guest appearance on Divine Youth, a track from the Manic Street Preachers album ‘Futurology’ in 2014. She is also involved in the Ghazalaw project with Gwyneth Glyn and Indian singer Tauseef Akhtar, whose debut album was recently released on Cerys Matthews's label.

Tickets cost £10 in advance and £12 on the door, are available from Pencerdd Music, Station Approach, Penarth, and Spillers Records, Cardiff. Doors open at 7.30pm and the performance starts at 8.15pm.
