ST David’s Hall, Cardiff, will host two lunchtime concerts at the end of January.

On Tuesday, January 26, acclaimed ensemble Trio Anima present a powerful programme of French and English music from the First World War, plus a dash of 18th century elegance from Couperin.

Also, on the powerful programme are Ravel, Bax and Debussy delivered by a unique instrumental combination of flute, viola and harp. Since forming at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Trio Anima have enjoyed tours of the UK including a special performance at the Royal Opera House, as well as well-received concerts across France.

Tickets to the 1pm concert cost £5.75 in advance and £6.75 on the day. A range of concessions are also available.

Then on Saturday, January 30, the exciting and experimental Piano Circus will perform at 1pm.

Plus, this captivating Contemporary Lunchtime Concert has a Pay What You Will price-tag meaning you won’t have to break the bank to try something new. Featuring six pianists at the top of their game, this chaotic show includes a thrilling interpretation of Steve Reich’s Six Pianos.

Elsewhere in the programme is Adrian Sutton’s Aerobatics Over Lake Wanaka, Dave Maric’s In Adversity (3rd Movement) and Graham Fitkin’s Log.

Since forming in 1989 over a joint love of Reich’s music, the ensemble has caused a stir in the music world with the relentless energy of their performances.

Supported by the Arts Council of Wales, the idea behind the Contemporary Lunchtime Concert series is simple – arrive at the Hall in time for the 1pm performance and pay what you feel is appropriate.

Tickets only available on the door.
