NOBLE Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter’s classic play Betrayal comes to St David’s Hall, Cardiff for three explosive shows from Thursday, March 3 to Saturday 5.

Packed with pain, sorrow, rage and regret; the 1978 drama is based on Pinter’s own seven-year affair with BBC TV presenter Joan Bakewell. Featuring a fresh interpretation from the Cardiff-based new theatrical company On in 5 Productions, Betrayal examines the love triangle between Emma, Robert and his “close friend” Jerry.

However, this is no ordinary romantic tale as the action unfolds backwards before your eyes from end to beginning. Pinter’s reverse chronology was truly innovative with the opening scene taking place in 1977 after the demise of the affair, whilst the final scene examines how the illicit affair began in 1968.

Betrayal heartlessly demonstrates that the very capacity for love itself is sometimes based on betraying not only other loved ones, but even ourselves.

Since its original publication, Betrayal has become one of the most dramatic plays in English literature, and it was even made into a successful film in 1983 starring Sir Ben Kingsley and Jeremy Irons.

Pinter also wrote the iconic plays The Birthday Party and The Homecoming, and has established himself as a highly successful screenwriter, director and actor for over 50 years.

Tickets cost £15 plus a £2.95 Ticket Service Charge per transaction and an optional 95p postage fee.
