A WEALTH of Vale talent has joined forces to stage the Kneehigh Theatre’s version of that most classic of films, the wonderful love story of Brief Encounter, being staged in Chapter Art Centre, Canton for Everyman Theatre from Tuesday, May 17 to Saturday, May 21.

Director Jackie Hurley from Dinas Powys has further adapted the play to highlight the talents of her small cast, which include Concept Theatre veteran Rhiannon Rose and her talented partner Shane Goodsir, recently seen in great form at The Paget Rooms in Little Me.

Pianist and musical director Gwyn Morgans has included suitable Noel Coward songs for the cast and will be accompanying the singing plus underscoring the play with the legendary Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 2 as heard in the original film.

Bringing his talents to the play as audio visual specialist and sound engineer is Huw Semmens from Llandough.

Huw is no stranger to Everyman Theatre having used his skills before in their Chapter productions and also at the Summer Festival productions at St Fagan’s and their new site in Sophia Garden.

Talking about the performance, director Jackie Hurley says "This version of Brief Encounter stays true to the original film dialogue – the screenplay was written by Noel Coward and the director was the legendary David Lean so I ‘m aware that I’m walking in the shoes of giants”.

The minor film characters – Myrtle and Beryl with their beau’s Albert and Stanley add the light relief with comedy and Coward’s wonderful music. Other well loved characters are there, boring Fred and interfering Dolly who spoil the lovers last meeting, they all come to life again in this slick, stylish yet heartbreakingly poignant production.
